For tying bales with a length less than 75 cm a wire retracting mechanism should be applied. The minimum bale length when applying a retraction mechanism is 40 cm. Once the top twist in the wires is made the mechanism removes this twist to the press chamber to prevent that the top twist get between the fingers underneath the hydromat and prevents making of the bottom twist.
The retracting of the wires into the press chamber has also another advantage. In a normal situation without using retraction mechanism the twist in the wires can hooks to another twist of the next bale; using this mechanism prevents this. The wire retraction mechanism is placed behind the press for a vertical tying and is hydraulically operated from the aggregate of the press.
